Nathaniel T. Ondeck, M.D.
Nathaniel Ondeck, MD, MHS is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in primary and revision hip and knee replacements. Procedures he performs include direct anterior and STAR hip replacements as well as partial and total knee replacements. He is trained in the use of both computer navigation and robotic techniques in order to optimize patient outcomes.
A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Ondeck graduated from Franklin Regional High School (Murrysville, PA) and then attended Carnegie Mellon University where he double majored in both chemical and biomedical engineering. He then matriculated to the Yale University School of Medicine where he obtained both his MD and MHS (Masters of Health Science) degrees. He was selected to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, which has been ranked US News and World Report’s #1 orthopaedic hospital in the United States for the last 16 years. While in residency, he participated in a six-week international traveling fellowship focused on lower extremity joint replacement techniques in ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg, Germany, as well as the IFCA Institute in Florence, Italy. He was selected to stay at Hospital for Special Surgery for his adult reconstruction (joint replacement) fellowship. He joined South Hills Orthopaedic Surgery in 2024 and holds the appointment of Orthopaedic Innovation Officer at St. Clair Hospital.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Ondeck is very passionate about research dedicated to improving the field of orthopaedics. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed papers and even more poster and podium presentations at national meetings. His work has been cited more than 1,000 times. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
Dr. Ondeck treats every patient as if they were his own family member.
